Larrgo Returns to the Westminster Dog Show
It is with great anticipation that we prepare to watch GCH SurLuvs Lickin LARRGO de Grace at this year’s WKC Dog Show on February 16-17 in New York City. If you remember, he participated in the 2013 show. He didn’t make the final cut (last 4) in his breed but made an excellent showing.
He was only 13 months old. Remember those little tufts of hair on his head? Puppy hairs! When the judging gets tight, they can cause a loss of points.
Well, beautiful Larrgo has continued to improve and win titles. Plus this year there are no puppy hairs! Here’s an update from Ed and Debbie:
We received our package for the Westminster Kennel Club Show in February. So we are officially in this year. Larrgo is getting very close to Gold Grand Champion which takes a total of 500 points. This is when you only get 5 – 10 points per show. He continues to be in Top Notch Toys magazine where the judges see him before shows.
To enjoy a cute video of Larrgo at the 2013 show, click here. Then tune in to the WKC Dog Show on Monday and Tuesday, February 16-17, 2015. You can view everything online via live streaming. Check out the WKC Dog Show website. The evening programs will be telecast live on CNBC.
We wish Ed and Debbie Heydt and LARRGO a brilliant showing! Go, LARRGO!
LARRGO Makes it to last cut….
Oh, my, the 2013 Westminster Dog Show was an exciting adventure for everyone. While Debbie and I were there for the weekend, SurLuvs Lickin Larrgo de Grace won first place in the Junior Sweepstakes and the Sweepstakes. The Juniors are dogs 1 year to 18 months and sweepstakes are the winner of the junior plus all other dogs. Larrgo received 2 rosette ribbons. The Greater New York City Club was the show sponsor. We had time to visit with Larrgo and it was a wild time when he lived up to his name SurLuvs Lickin.
Then Sunday we had a day off to enjoy and relax before the nail-biting
The Havanese competition had 26 Havanese being judged. Our SurLuv Lickin Larrgo de Grace was one of them. The judge put all the dogs through their paces and then selected 1/2 that would continue. Larrgo made the first cut. The judge continued looking them over as she put them through their paces and then did another cut reducing the 13 to a final 8 from which she would choose the final four.
Larrgo made the final eight. Debbie and I looked at each other and Debbie said “Oh, my heart is beating fast.” Another time around the ring with the judge watching the dog’s every move. Finally she picked the final four Havanese but Larrgo didn’t make the final cut. What can we say? “Wait till next year!” Larrgo did us proud. He is only 13 months old and is already a Grand Champion.
February 11 at the 2013 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show
in New York City, SurLuvs Lickin LARRGO de Grace
proved he is indeed a Grand Champion.
Debbie and I cannot say enough about our excellent handler, Ruthellen Viall and the wonderful care and training she gives our puppies. It’s her expertise and love for Havanese that truly made all of this possible. (The web lady apologizes for the incorrect spelling of your name in the video.) Thank you, Ruthellen. We are so looking forward to the possibility of 2014 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show!
All the winners of the Havanese Breed at the show are included in the video. We congratulate and praise all the fine dogs in the show. And without further ado, we wish to Congratulate the GRAND WINNERS of the 2013 Westminster Dog Show:
GCH Banana Joe V Tani Kazari
Breed: Affenpinscher
Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect
Breed: Old English Sheepdog
GCH LARRGO will be packin’ for NYC
I keep thinking back to the story of how LARRGO went from frolicking puppy to Westminster Dog Show! If I understand correctly, when pups are born, often the handler gets to pick one in trade for some of the work she’s doing.
Interestingly, when Debbie saw the little pup, she immediately said, “I definitely want him.” So instead of their very experienced handler, Ruthellen Viall owning LARRGO, the Heydt’s own him. Just a chance choice.
In July 2012, he was 6 months old. Handler Ruthellen began to enter him in dog shows where he performed very well. By October 2012, LARRGO had won his Championship. At this point, they decided to let him continue and by Thanksgiving in November, LARRGO was a grand champion!! In the process he won ahead of the Number 1 Havanese in Northeast USA. This is when Ruthellen called Ed and Debbie and said, “I think we should try to get him into the Westminister Dog Show.”
So with great excitement and enthusiasm, the Heydt’s, handler Ruthellen Viall and GCH LARRGO are counting down the days to the 2013 Westminster Dog Show. What a story! Stay tuned. We are proud of our LAARGO no matter if he wins… but what a grand ending to this delightful story a win would make! by the web lady, Ellie
